J. G. Elliott Company began as the Wakefield Insurance Agency in 1920 in an office in the Bluffs Theatre Building. It became known as Wakefield & Elliott Inc. when Jack Elliott joined the firm in 1925. When Jack Elliott bought out Wakefield the name was changed to J. G. Elliott Company and the Agency moved to a spacious new office on the second floor in the Murphy Building at 16th & Broadway.

The Murphy Building was demolished to make way for their new department store. The J. G. Elliott Company then moved to their new office at 23 East 18th Street.

The Agency was purchased by Jim and Dorothy Massey son-in-law and daughter of Jack Elliott, who retained the J. G. Elliott Company name. Due to the growth of the business it was necessary to add to the existing building in 1980. This facility served our customers well until the early 1990’s.

John and Megan Massey purchased the J. G. Elliott Company from his parents in 1994 and in 1995 construction on our new building at 2525 Circle Drive began.

J.G. Elliott Company merged with the Platte Valley Financial Services Companies, Inc. of Scottsbluff, a/k/a Platte Valley Companies. Currently, Platte Valley’s financial network of companies currently consist of Platte Valley Bank in Scottsbluff, Gering, Bridgeport, Minatare, and Morrill, Nebraska; Platte Valley Bank in Torrington, Cheyenne, Casper, and Wheatland Wyoming; Mountain Valley Bank in Walden, Steamboat Springs, Hayden, and Meeker, Colorado; Ag Credit Co. in Scottsbluff, Nebraska; PV Mortgage Company in Scottsbluff, Nebraska; J.G. Elliott Insurance Center in Scottsbluff, Nebraska and Torrington and Wheatland, Wyoming; and C.H. Brown Co. LLC., in Wheatland, Wyoming.

McBrayer Insurance Center in Torrington WY joined J. G. Elliott Company to service customers in the eastern Wyoming area. In October of the same year, J. G. Elliott moved to a new location at 1111 East 20th Street in Scottsbluff, on the Platte Valley Companies campus. The newly remodeled former Ace Hardware building is home to both the INSURANCE CENTER and the Platte Valley Company DATA CENTER. This enables our customers to handle all of their financial business in one convenient area.

McBrayer Insurance in Wheatland, Wyoming was opened.

McBrayer Insurance Center in Torrington and Wheatland Wyoming was renamed J. G. Elliott Insurance Center to provide our customers with a consistent company name across Nebraska and Wyoming.
